This book sparked the pietistic movement in the 17th Century. Three sections. First, attention is drawn to moral laxity, indifference toward sin, and hypocrisy in the church. Second, there is hope for reform. Third, six concrete proposals for reform are presented including more extensive public and private use of Scripture, greater laity participation, and preaching that has edification and the inner life as its goal.
